We started Pistils to create a unique gathering place for people who are as passionate about plants and urban homesteading as we are … a place for discovery, conversation, and above all, sharing. In addition to the rich experience we strive to offer at Pistils, you’ll find an immense diversity of plant species and an extensive variety of supplies for the city farmer.

Country Living in the City

We actively promote the idea of home-grown, urban agriculture. Beyond our unique selection of ornamentals, edibles and indoor plants, we encourage and support chicken keeping, worm composting, growing your own food, raising honey and mason bees through an extensive offering of supplies for the urban homesteader and frequent workshops and events. Our western roots have compelled us to create an environment with our retail spaces that activate the senses and recall the experience of rural life — from the rustic architecture of our building and our happy resident chickens to our bulk feed bins and country store chalk board. We look forward to your visit.

Our Commitment to the Community

Pistils Nursery is devoted to supporting our local wholesalers and making our community stronger through progressive cooperation. Nearly all of our plants are sourced from small growers right here in the beautiful Willamette Valley. And twenty-five percent (and growing) of all stock is sustainably cultivated (see: no chemicals or nasty synthetic fertilizers) at our own propagation site, less than a mile away from our retail space. And most importantly of all, our friendly and knowledgeable staff is ready to help with advice and insight on making your garden or urban homestead prosper.

We are thrilled that over the years our retail nursery on North Mississipi Avenue has become a fertile environment for sharing ideas and exchanging information. With our new web site, we want to provide a place on-line that offers an extension of this spirit.
