Our Services
Comprehensive landscape design work in both 2D and 3D, planting plans and consultation, fine carpentry (decks, fences, trellis, etc.), expert stone masonry (patios, walls, walks, etc.), water features and lighting are among the services we offer. A Collaborative Approach
In collaborating with our design + install clients, close communication is our top priority. We understand that every project and client is unique and what works for some, most definitely doesn’t work for others. We ask our clients a lot of questions up-front, so we can effectively determine how we might best serve them. Then, as the project moves forward — from the planning phases through the final installation — we remain in close contact, working hand-in-hand with our clients to ensure the end-result precisely meets their specific vision and expectations. Our policy is that any given project is not finished until our clients are completely satisfied, as we stand firmly behind all of our work.
I can’t say enough great things about my experience with Pistils. From the design phase to the construction to the planting, Glenn and Mégan and the rest of their wonderful team really understood how to merge design, space and function. The end result was an amazingly beautiful landscape that stayed true to the period of my house and established peaceful spaces to enjoy the outdoors year-round.

We would like to thank Pistils Landscape Design for their wonderful work. From the design, to the landscaping, to the choice of plants and the full installation, Pistils was a joy to work with.
Pistils’ experience and vision helped turn the outside of our house into an integrated and wonderfully functional living space — not just some old “yard” or some old “driveway” — but a real showpiece! Pistils’ willingness to bring all sorts of ideas to the table from conservative to wild but also to take into account our thoughts and desires (no matter how inarticulate they were) was excellent. I felt Pistils really listened to our ideas and really incorporated them into a unified idea that runs from front to back of the house.
For the work itself, we have been remodeling our house fairly substantially over the last six years. In that time we’ve had close to 20 different contractors working in, on and around the home with a wide variety of work ethics and workmanship ideas. Pistils was amazing! They were punctual, courteous, very hard working, and very professional; Pistils has chosen its people well. Even my neighbors (who were quite curious about such a big job) always remarked how friendly the employees were and what a great job they did and what attention to detail they had. The fact that everyone would clean up each night before leaving was a huge bonus and almost unheard of among the other contractors we’ve had.
For such a large job (back yard reboot with structures, side yard reboot with hardscaping, and front yard reboot with everything) Pistils always kept us up-to-date with any changes or snags so there were no surprises when the work was done or when the final bill came.
We are ecstatic about our new front, side and back yards. We’ve been recommending Pistils to everyone we know and will continue doing so.

We hired Pistils to build a backyard patio and path for us. It wasn’t an easy layout — the path and patio both curved and the angles of our house are kind of odd — but you wouldn’t know anything had been difficult because of how amazingly well it turned out! Glenn was great: provided an estimate that was very thoughtful and reasonable, helped us decide which pavers were best, offered advice on how the patio would fit with the existing deck we had, etc. He and the crew were super-competent, really taking their time to make sure everything was done right the first time. We were always kept apprised of what was going on and Glenn always got back to us very quickly with any issues. We were very impressed, as were our neighbors, who’ve now asked him to do some work for them! Our patio is so lovely and inviting; we can’t wait to have lots and lots of parties in our newly impressive backyard. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone who asks. Thanks, Pistils!

From the start, Pistils went out of their way to make sure our vision was realized. We greatly appreciated how Pistils took the time to address all of our concerns along the way whether via email, phone call or stopping by for a quick meeting. The 3D model that was provided before construction really helped us envision the transformation of our yard.
During construction we were impressed with the way Pistils stayed within the proposed budget even when unforeseen conditions came along. The installers were conscientious and thoughtful and delivered a fantastic product. The work included cast-in-place concrete walls, a tiered hardwood deck, pavers, and sod. It was a difficult set of tasks to execute, but everything turned out exactly how we expected. We are excited to continue working with Pistils on the next phases of our project.

Pistils has always been an all-time favorite. We hired them to re-landscape our backyard, which was in desperate need of a make-over. From start to finish the Pistils crew was responsive, helpful, meticulous and hard-working. Pistils understood our needs, balancing aesthetics and ease-of-maintenance (dog + kid-friendly, too). It’s been a long time coming … a brand new, professionally designed garden. It’s not that I couldn’t do it myself … I know what looks good … but I didn’t know how to make it all happen by myself … So, after years of trying, I hired a local pro – Pistils Landscape Design. They’re part of the famous nursery down on Mississippi Avenue. I’ve been a regular customer for years and have truly come to rely on and trust the expertise of the staff and owners. So, when I learned they also offered landscape design and installation, I jumped on it.
Mégan and Glenn came out and met with me and listened to all my grand ideas, dreams and desires. From there, they drafted up a gorgeous site plan and we were on our way!

We contacted Pistils Landscape Design with ideas for fixing a back yard that had been neglected. We wanted raised beds for gardening, room for a chicken coop, a deck for entertaining and a lawn for playing croquet. We also wanted to incorporate our existing perennials into the design. We knew we were being ambitious … Glenn and Mégan listened to our needs and made helpful suggestions during the planning phase. The plan they presented to us gave us a very detailed menu to choose from, as well as many design elements we hadn’t thought of. Once the work began, Glenn checked in with us daily and was a pleasure to work with. The Pistils crew members were efficient, friendly and professional. The end result is a beautiful back yard that exceeded our expectations.

We loved working with Glenn from Pistils Landscape Design. We’ve taken to calling the coop he built us the chicken mansion. Glenn listened to what we wanted, modified his coop design to meet our needs and then hand-crafted us a gorgeous coop. The coop perfectly meets the needs of our little backyard flock by providing them a secure structure with a ton of room. It provides easy cleaning and access for us and is a great visual focal point in our yard. We would consider Pistils Landscape Design in a heartbeat for another project.

I chose Pistils Landscape Design because of their size and their commitment to community. As a small, local firm, I felt they would provide a great experience and listen to our needs while offering their expertise at the same time. To say I was satisfied with the results would be an understatement. The customer service I received from Glenn was truly awesome. I was shocked to find that Glenn and other Pistils’ employees would start and finish the entire job—not a “crew” I’d never met or wouldn’t be able to answer my questions during the install. Glenn often worked in downpours and 95 degree heat — and Mégan — just several months from having her first baby, was out there digging holes and planting trees as well. I wouldn’t recommend another company.
